Israeli doctors performed a complex unique operation on a child to remove a heart tumor. The body temperature of a small patient during the operation did not exceed 17 °C. In this state, she was 23 minutes.

At such a low temperature, the body’s need for oxygen is reduced to a minimum. At the same time, it is possible to significantly reduce the nature of the damage and reduce the number of surgical sutures.

23 minutes after the start of the operation, the heart of a four-year-old patient stopped working. During the stop, the body was supplied with oxygen by means of an artificial heart apparatus. During this time, a team of surgeons carefully removed the cancerous tumor. In total, the operation lasted 8 hours.

Little Radid Rai, who lives in Gaza City, suffered from a malignant tumor of the heart. The pathology covered the blood vessels and affected the right side of the heart muscle. Aggressive therapy did not give positive results, on the contrary, the tumor increased in size. The life and health of the patient were in danger. According to experienced doctors, this is a rather rare case of the course of the disease.

Professor of the medical institution Yitzhak Winograd said that without surgery, the girl has practically no chance to survive. Although there are only a few such operations in the world. During the operation, 10 surgeons were involved. None of them had previously had experience in carrying out such an operation. The operating room was attended by cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, resuscitators and oncologists.

The baby’s condition is now stable. The girl was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit. A close relative is in the room with her.
