Recently, a study was conducted that examined the life expectancy of cancer patients who were treated in a particular country.

Over the course of 15 years, data on the condition of more than 37.5 million patients living around the world in 71 countries was analyzed.

The main feature of the study is the analysis of various types of oncology: cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, melanoma, leukemia. In total, about 18 types of cancer were taken into account, which is about 75% of all oncology ailments. The researchers took into account the conditions of patients with different types of cancer, which allowed a better assessment of the overall level of cancer treatment in the countries studied. The main indicator for analysis is five-year net survival.

The highest five-year breast survival rate was found in the US (90.2%) and Australia (89.5%). It is well above average. For example, in India, the same indicator is 66.1%, which is almost a quarter less.

The best five-year survival rates for gastrointestinal cancer are in countries in Southeast Asia. For cancer of the stomach (68.9%), colon (71.8%), and rectum (71.1%) – in South Korea. The highest survival rate for esophageal cancer is in Japan (36%), liver cancer in Taiwan (27.9%). At the same time, the data obtained in these countries for cancer of the gastrointestinal tract are lower than those for melanoma of the skin in other parts of the world.
